Abstract: The article states that today Ukraine is at the stage of building a nation and an advanced democratic state, and is developing the principles of foreign policy on the basis of national interests. Like Canada half a century ago, Ukraine is closest to the middle-class countries. In this sense, the concept of “middle power” and its implementation into a practical foreign policy course is of considerable interest to politicians and scientists who are developing the principles of Ukrainian foreign policy. It was stated that Ukraine, like Canada, adheres to a non-nuclear status. The main value for Ukrainian society is the experience of Canada, which, like Ukraine, had a colonial past, to create the foundations of independent foreign policy. The article also focuses on the fact that, although Canadian centres have already been established in Ukraine, systemic study of Canada has not yet taken place. The experience of the “middle power” aims at Canada engaging in solving those problems where it can show its potential to the greatest extent. In the post-bipolar times it is the solution to the global humanitarian problems of domestic politics. From the point of view of the Canadian leadership, success in this area will help increase its credibility in the world. This activity is in line with the national values benchmarks, which pay particular attention to the development of a foreign policy strategy, which include: the rejection of forceful ways of solving problems, respect for democratic principles and human rights, tolerance for diversity, gender equality, social justice and environmental care. Today, Canada is one of the few countries that, in spite of the internal crisis of its own multicultural policies, has eliminated the general trend of increasing intolerance and maintained a policy balance on religious, ethnic and other vulnerable groups, including refugees. Therefore, her experience of domestic and foreign policy can be very useful for Ukraine.
