Abstract: The article focuses on the fact that the meta-precipitation of modern political research as an actual trend of scientific research leads to the search for non-traditional interconnections and interactions between different sociopolitical phenomena and processes. The inadequacy of crosscutting theoretical studies discredits the complexity of scientific achievements in the political science sector. The urgency of scientific interest in the third sector and political modern- ization makes it necessary to seek and systematize the causal relationships between them. The purpose of the paper is to identify the causality between civil society and political modernization, as well as to detail its content. The purpose of the article is realized in the process of solving several major tasks: the definition of the theoretical basis for substantiation of correlation between civil society and political modernization; identifying the key vectors of their interactions. The methodological basis of the study was the selection of systematic, structural-functional and institutional methods. The study concluded that the research of civil society and political modernization co-operation required systematic knowledge of the content of both the first and second phenomena of so- cio-political reality. At the same time, the external multidimensional and internal complexity of these phenomena makes the research methodology based on the interdisciplinary approach. As combining ground, or rather, socio-political framework of the interaction of political modernization and civil society, democracy is defined with all the set of principles inherent in it. The cyclical nature of the interaction of civil society and political modernization is substantiated: civil society, being in a state of dissatisfaction with some kind of manifestation of the political system, articulates the requirement of overcoming it, addressed to all actors in the public process, in the course of the predominantly synergetic activity of these actors, solutions of modernization content are developed, then their realization, evaluation of efficiency, and eventually new needs arise. In addition, it was argued that political modernization expands the functionality of civil society, making it a full-fledged actor of public policy; diversifies its composition; promotes social mobil- ity; raises the political culture and competence of citizens; facilitates internal and external communication. Civil society as a factor in political modernization affects its intensity, objectivity, scale, efficiency, optimality, systemicity, legal regulation, etc., defines the vectors for improving the political system.
