Abstract: The development of the institutional structure of the state of modern democracy is consid- ered. The features of the evolution of the political segment of civil society are studied. It is determined that, in the context of the atomicity of political identity, strengthened by the weakness of the forms of democratic representation and governance, political patriotism could be considered as new approach for determining the direction of citizens' association. The association must be based on the common principles and common vision of the pros- pects of the state development. The article applies both general scientific and professional political science approaches and methods. In particular, descriptive (describes the practice of social activities), retrospective (analyzes the political experience of democratic and transfor- mational countries), comparative (compares different institutional forms of the implementation of political patriotism at the micro level) belongs to general sciences. Professional methods include a systematic approach and structural-functional method. They help to identify the components of the system of civic relations in local communities, as well as specific structural links of transformational political systems, in which the influence of political patriotism on the specificity of political participation is manifested. Attention is paid to the content of patriotism as driving force of social initiatives and social networks. It is proved that in the countries of sustainable democracy, political patriotism has led to focusing of many social groups on fate- ful and significant public problems. Established, that in today's Ukraine, patriotic civic initia- tives and networks are at the first stage of their development, they are trying to act both in the problematic horizons of local self-government authorities and within the whole spectrum of social problems of the country. In addition, their further development requires consulting assistance in connection with their organizational forms and the development of ideological principles of patriotic identity, which would allow unite as wide circle of citizens as possible.
