The article investigates the phenomenon of dehumanization of the enemy as one of the methods of military propaganda in the conditions of modern armed conflicts. It is revealed that propaganda functions not only as an information tool, but also as a system for constructing meanings and social reality, within which ideas about “one’s own” and “others” are formed. The main psychological mechanisms of dehumanization are identified, in particular stereotyping, simplification and paranoid projection, which ensure the formation of a generalized negative image of the enemy. It is proven that as a result of these processes, the “Other” is perceived as a carrier of stable, comprehensive and unchanging characteristics, which creates the basis for his demonization. It is established that both in classical totalitarian models of propaganda, in particular Nazi, and in modern Russian propaganda discourse, a common logic of constructing the image of the enemy is traced. It involves the formation of an image of “one’s” group as morally superior, the bearer of a historical mission and a legitimate subject, while the “other” is deprived of subjectivity, cultural identity and the right to exist. It is proven that dehumanization is a necessary condition for the legitimation of violence, since depriving the enemy of the status of a moral subject allows one to justify aggression as forced or necessary. It is revealed that in modern conditions, propaganda functions in a postmodern logic, which undermines the very possibility of the existence of objective truth and creates an environment for the spread of manipulative narratives. It is substantiated that the combination of dehumanization with mechanisms of sanctioning and routinization of violence forms the conditions under which violence ceases to be perceived as a moral problem and acquires signs of a socially acceptable norm.
