Genocide: the problematic field of terminology as we understand it

Abstract

Тhe concept of "genocide" has been established relatively recently both in international regulatory documents, as well as in socio-political and legal discourses. The study of genocides of the XX-XXI centuries is a task that requires an interdisciplinary approach, including the versatile specifics of the problem, its moral impact on humanity. It not only represents scientific relevance, but also has a significant public response associated with the awareness of the possibility of an omnecid of humanity as a species. It is also important that the need to consolidate human rights in international regulatory documents was influenced by the most famous genocide of the XX century – the Holocaust. At the same time, without studying the conceptual framework associated with the tragedies of genocides, it is more difficult to bring to justice both individuals and terrorist entities responsible for committing genocide. Поняття «геноцид» порівняно недавно утвердилося як у міжнародних нормативних документах, так і в суспільно-політичному та правовому дискурсах. Вивчення геноцидів ХХ-ХХІ століть є завданням, яке потребує міждисциплінарного підходу, враховуючи різнобічну специфіку проблеми, її моральний вплив на людство. Це не лише представляє наукову актуальність, але й має значний суспільний резонанс, пов’язаний із усвідомленням можливості всебічності людства як виду. Важливо також, що на необхідність закріплення прав людини в міжнародних нормативних документах вплинув найвідоміший геноцид ХХ століття – Голокост. Водночас без вивчення концептуальних рамок, пов’язаних із трагедіями геноцидів, складніше притягнути до відповідальності як осіб, так і терористичні організації, винних у вчиненні геноциду.
