Августин Аврелий: модель линейного времени

Abstract

The problem of time attracts a research interest for millennia. However, in recent decades there has been an improvement of its relevance in connection with the increasingly tangible acceleration of the historical process. Therefore, the study and the reconstruction of various models (including the model of linear time), that offer an interpretation of the course of the history and the time, will help to find an adequate answer to the challenges of the present and the future. The aim of the article is to interpret the model of linear time (using the Augustine Aurelius system as an example) by identifying and understanding its key characteristics. The methodological foundations of the study are: 1) the conceptual reconstruction – in the understanding the model of linear time; 2) the comparative analysis – in the correlating the antique and medieval systems of worldview in general, as well as linear and cyclical models of the time and the historical process in particular; 3) the principle of historicism – in the identifying the characteristic features of the Augustinian interpretation of the mankind’s formation and of the course of time, which accompanies the history. The results of the study: 1. There are shown principal differences between medieval and antique ontological systems: in the interpretation of the principle of the creation of the world; in the resolving the issue of the combination of the spiritual and the material; in the understanding the fundamental principles of regulation the world. 2. The characteristics of the model of linear time (through its comparative analysis with the model of cyclic of time), arising from the medieval Christian worldview, are revealed and considered. There are: the linearity, which essence is that the creation of the world by God set its beginning, directed the course of the time and the history towards a logical ending – doomsday, which gives an interdependence and a single common sense to all stages of the historical process; teleologicality, i. e., the correspondence of temporal-historical becoming to the Divine plan adequately to the goal given by God; the one-vectoriality (due to it the historical events run in strict sequence – from the creation to the end of history and to the summing up its results at the Last Judgment, moreover it’s principal that the reversing the time and the history is impossible). 3. The duality of the point of view of Augustine Aurelius on the essence of time is emphasized. In the description of the processes of creation and formation of the world, the philosopher considers the time as their objective characteristic. The thinker resorts to subjectivization of time, encountering the difficulty of fixing the phases of time through the word «is». According to Augustine, a revealing of the past, present and future as various intentions of consciousness is the way of overcoming this difficulty. Проблема часу привертає дослідницький інтерес протягом тисячоліть. Однак в останні десятиліття спостерігається підвищення її актуальності у зв’язку із все більш відчутним прискоренням історичного процесу. Тому дослідження і реконструкція різних моделей (в тому числі, моделі лінійного часу), що пропонують тлумачення ходу історії і часу, сприятимуть пошуку адекватної відповіді на виклики сучасності та майбутнього. Метою статті є інтерпретація моделі лінійного часу (на прикладі системи Августина Аврелія) через виявлення та осмислення її ключових характеристик. Методологічними засадами дослідження є: 1) концептуальна реконструкція – під час осмислення моделі лінійного часу; 2) порівняльний аналіз – під час співвіднесення античної та середньовічної систем світорозуміння взагалі, а також лінійної та циклічної моделей часу і історичного процесу зокрема; 3) принцип історизму – під час виявлення характерних особливостей августиніанського тлумачення становлення людства і плину часу, що супроводжує історію. Результати дослідження: 1) показані принципові відмінності середньовічної й античної онтологічних систем: у тлумаченні принципу творення світу; у вирішенні питання про поєднання духовного і матеріального; в розумінні фундаментальних основ упорядкування світу. 2) Виявлено і осмислено характерні особливості моделі лінійного часу (через її порівняльний аналіз з моделлю циклічного часу), що випливають з середньовічно-християнського світорозуміння: лінійність, суть якої в тому, що Боже створення світу, задавши йому початок, спрямувало хід часу та історії до логічного фіналу – кінця світу, який надає всім етапам історичного процесу взаємозумовленість і єдиний сенс; телеологічність, тобто відповідність темпорально-історичного становлення Божественному плану, розробленому адекватно заданій Богом меті; 3) одновекторність, завдяки якій історичні події здійснюються в строгій послідовності – від створення до кінця історії і підведення її підсумків на Страшному Суді, причому неможливість обернення часу та історії є принциповою. Підкреслено подвійність думки Августина Аврелія щодо сутності часу. В описі процесів створення та становлення світу філософ позиціонує час як об’єктивну їх характеристику. До суб’єктивізації часу мислитель вдається, стикаючись зі складністю фіксації фаз часу за допомогою слова «є». Способом подолання цієї складності Августин бачить конституювання минулого, теперішнього і майбутнього різними інтенціями свідомості.
