Abstract

The article reviews the emergence of the civil society as a result of the long and complex historical development, a consequence of the formation of needs for the development of the civil sphere, their influence on the state sphere, and the state settlement of these needs. The nature of social problems in certain historical periods was reflected in the roles of the parties in relationships between the state and civil society. Based on the analysis of a number of scientific and theoretical sources and factual material, the main trends in the development of the idea of the civil society and the nature of its relationship with the state are outlined.
