Abstract: The modern world is the point of view quite geopolitically. Global changes at the end of XX century that were caused by the restructuring of bipolar system became the reason of emergence of new internationally important geopolitical regions in Eurasia and changed dramatically the geopolitical map of the world. Being located between the Black and Caspian seas, the Caucasian region became a point of intersection of military and political interests of ad- joined powers. Moreover, this region got a more strategic significance after the establishment of transit ways between Iran, Turkey, Russia and Middle Asia. Besides that, natural resources also add to political importance of South Caucasus. All in all, above mentioned facts and also the impact that processes in South Caucasus have on neighboring regions pose an interests for the states like Russia, USA, European countries, Turkey, Israel, Iran, China and India, as well as the organizations like NATO, EU, CIS, OIC, OSCE, BSEC. The Article explains geostrategic and geo-economic importance of the region and suggests scientific-political investigation of the situation, addressing the core of its geostrategic balance. Author proposes an analysis of strategic balance policy of Azerbaijan, conducted on oil diplomacy and international communications that enabled the region, located in the center of world attention, not to live the destiny of Middle East. It is important to stress that, strategy balance in the region depends on the coincidence of the positions of the great powers.
