System 0/1/2/3: debates on the nature of (artificial) general intelligence

Abstract

Fundamental epistemological issues of the construction/functioning of intelligent systems are considered. Such questions have become especially relevant in connection with the rapid progress of artificial intelligence systems. It is predicted that in the near future, AGI or even super-intelligence will appear. However, there is still no common understanding of how “(artificial) general intelligence” arises. Even the first principles of the formation of human-like intelligence remain unclear. The author believes that at this stage it is important to develop even very rough interdisciplinary sketches of the “phenomenon.” They will allow us to identify and record the key aspects/characteristics of “living (highly intelligent) systems.” A general formal understanding of the "phenomenon" is also important for the development of educational technologies. Розглянуто фундаментальні епістемологічні питання побудови/функціонування інтелектуальних систем. Такі питання стали особливо актуальними у зв'язку зі стрімким прогресом систем штучного інтелекту. Прогнозується, що в найближчому майбутньому з'явиться штучний інтелект (ЗШІ) або навіть суперінтелект. Однак досі немає єдиного розуміння того, як виникає «(штучний) загальний інтелект». Навіть перші принципи формування людиноподібного інтелекту залишаються неясними. Автор вважає, що на цьому етапі важливо розробити навіть дуже приблизні міждисциплінарні ескізи «явища». Вони дозволять нам виявити та зафіксувати ключові аспекти/характеристики «живих (високоінтелектуальних) систем». Загальне формальне розуміння «явища» також важливе для розвитку освітніх технологій.
