Some peculiarities of South Western regional pronunciation

Abstract

Метою статті є дослідження регіональної варіативності на південному заході Англії, а також характеристика мовної ситуації на Британських островах в цілому. У ході дослідження автор з'ясувала правомірність цілісного підходу до діалектів південно-західного ареалу як до системи загальнорегіональної єдності, яка має глибокі історичні корені. Важливою тенденцією мовленнєвого розвитку на південному заході Англії є згладжування вузьколокальних та збереження регіональних рис. The aim of the article is to study regional variability in the south-west of England, as well as to characterize the language situation in the British Isles as a whole. In the course of the research, the author clarified the legitimacy of a holistic approach to the dialects of the south-western area as a system of regional unity, which has deep historical roots. An important trend in speech development in the south-west of England is the smoothing of narrow local and the preservation of regional features.
