Військовий, інженер, розвідник: віхи діяльності полковника наполеонівських часів Вінсена Іва Бутена

Abstract

Дослідження зосереджене на аналізі основних віх життя та діяльності полковника Вінсена Іва Бутена – військового інженера, учасника майже всіх військових кампаній наполеонівської епохи. Розглянуто соціально-політичні та дипломатичні передумови і передісторію секретної місії Бутена на території Алжиру. Проаналізовано перебіг та події подорожі, а також обставини створення ним докладного рапорту «Загальна розвідка міста, фортів та батарей Алжиру». Доведено, що широкомасштабна французька експедиція в Алжир 1830 р. була спадком політичних амбіцій наполеонівської епохи. При плануванні кампанії в Алжир рапорт Вінсена Іва Бутена став головним джерелом відомостей щодо рекогносцировки французьких військ під час вторгнення. The research focuses on the analysis of the main milestones in the life and work of Colonel Vincent Yves Buten – a military engineer, participant of almost all military campaigns of the Napoleonic era. Within the study, the focus is placed on the sociopolitical and diplomatic preconditions and prehistory of Buten's secret mission on the territory of Algeria. The course and core events of the trip as well as the circumstances of the creation of his detailed report «General Intelligence of the city, forts, and batteries of Algeria» are analysed. According to the Buten report «General Intelligence of the City, Forts, and Batteries of Algeria», the population of Algiers was 3,000, while the population of Algeria – 73,000. The thorough and detailed report contains numerous maps and sketches, descriptions of forts, location of batteries, ground and naval forces, notes on the country's resources of food, wood, water, meteorology, and an overview of diseases.
