Abstract: У статті розглянуто можливості використання ігрових методів, зокрема дидактичних, рольових і ділових ігор, у навчанні іншомовної граматики студентів філологічних факультетів. Наведено зразки ігор, які можна використовувати для формування граматичної компетентності майбутніх філологів.The article reveals the possibilities of using game methods, namely didactic games, role plays and business games, in teaching foreign grammar to philologists. The article is based on the scientific material on the problem. The scientific methods of analysis, synthesis, description and comparison have been used in order to differentiate didactic game, role play and business game, and single out their peculiarities as well as reasons to use them for forming future philologists’ grammar competence. Didactic game is regarded by the author as a game which is played according to the rules and is closely associated with learning. The competitive nature of didactic game encourages students to achieve the stated goal, and its positive emotional background boosts students’ confidence in their own abilities as well as helps to over- come their fear of misuse of grammatical structures. The winner of the game is determined by the number of points re- ceived for the speed of accomplishing the task and/or for the accuracy of speech. Role play enables the teacher to model in the classroom situations of foreign language communication. It aims at reproducing and getting social experience, in which humans develop and improve their behaviour. Role plays give students opportunities to frequently repeat gram- matical structures in speech and to develop skills of spontaneous speech. A distinctive feature of business game is that it is connected with students’ future profession. It simulates close-to-real conditions of professional activity as well as the activity itself. With the aim of forming methodological skills students are given the opportunity to play the role of the teacher and perform their professional functions, explain grammar to their pupils, do exercises with them, detect, cor- rect and analyze their mistakes, and the like. It has been concluded that the application of game methods in the process of foreign grammar teaching stimulates students’ communicative and thinking activities, contributes to the formation of their grammar skills, speech skills, strategies and tactics, allows training their memory and imagination, and ensures the harmonious development of a personality. Modeling the professional activity in a business game helps students gain professional experience, develop their methodological skills, abilities to analyze specific practical situations and make decisions, form professionally significant qualities. The author also provides the samples of games to be used in the process of forming future philologists’ grammar competence.
