Abstract

The translation of official documents constitutes one of the most demanding and, at the same time, least systematically investigated domains of translation practice. Despite the obvious social significance of legal, administrative, diplomatic, and commercial texts – documents that regulate relations between individuals, organisations, and states – translation studies have traditionally focused its primary theoretical attention on literary and journalistic translation, leaving the officialdocumentary sphere at the margins of scholarly reflection. The present monograph is an attempt to address this gap.
