Лінгвокогнітивний аналіз метафоричних виразів в англійській та українській мовах

Abstract

У статті проведено лінгвокогнітивний аналіз метафоричних виразів в англійській та українській мовах, з акцентом на виявлення та класифікацію структури метафоричних виразів та аналізу спільностей та відмінностей у їхньому використанні в обох мовах. Визначено метафору як вирішальний компонент мови, який має значущий вплив на формування сприйняття світу кожною особою. Вона не просто насичує мову образністю та виразною енергією, але також сприяє поясненню різноманітних понять та феноменів. Зʼясовано, що аналітика метафоричних висловлювань є інтегральною частиною лінгвістичних та когнітивних наукових досліджень. Застосовано методи контентаналізу, корпусного аналізу та компаративного аналізу для збору та вивчення широкого спектру метафоричних виразів з різних тематичних областей в англійській та українській мовах. Ілюстративний матеріал взято із корпусів англійської та української мов (International Corpus of English та Генерального регіонально анотованого корпусу української мови відповідно). Виявлено різні структурні шаблони метафор, які використовуються в обох мовах, демонструючи гнучкість метафори як мовного засобу. Доведено, що метафора відіграє важливу роль у мовному та когнітивному процесах, формуючи культурні та соціальні контексти. Англійська та українська мови мають і спільні, і відмінні характеристики у використанні метафори. Наприклад, англійська мова часто використовує метафори, повʼязані зі спортом та технологіями, тоді як українська мова має велику кількість метафор, повʼязаних з природою та аграрними традиціями. Відрізняється і структура метафоричних виразів. The article conducts a linguistic and cognitive analysis of metaphorical expressions in English and Ukrainian, with an emphasis on identifying and classifying the structure of metaphorical expressions and analyzing the similarities and differences in their use in both languages. The article defines metaphor as a crucial component of language that has a significant impact on the formation of the perception of the world by each person. It not only saturates the language with imagery and expressive energy, but also helps to explain various concepts and phenomena. The article shows that the analysis of metaphorical statements is an integral part of linguistic and cognitive research. The methods of content analysis, corpus analysis and comparative analysis are used to collect and study a wide range of metaphorical expressions fromdifferent thematic areas in English and Ukrainian. The illustrative material is taken from the English and Ukrainian corpora(International Corpus of English and the General Regionally Annotated Corpus of the Ukrainian Language, respectively).The article reveals different structural patterns of metaphors used in both languages, demonstrating the flexibility of metaphor as a linguistic tool. It is proved that metaphor plays an important role in linguistic and cognitive processes, shaping cultural and social contexts. English and Ukrainian have both common and distinctive characteristics in the use of metaphor. For example, English often uses metaphors related to sports and technology, while Ukrainian has a large number of metaphors related to nature and agricultural traditions. The structure of metaphorical expressions also differs. In English, expressions tend to use structures such as "X is Y", "X does Y", "X as Y", "X of Y", "X is like Y", "X in Y" and "X through Y", which demonstrates greater flexibility in the use of metaphors, expressing a wide range of concepts and ideas. Ukrainian language metaphors, while sharing common structures with English, also use unique structures that reflect the peculiarities of the Ukrainian experience and cultural context. For example, they include structures such as "X - Y", metaphorical expressions with the use of reflexive verbs, pronouns, and state words. The identified differences between metaphorical expressions in English and Ukrainian reflect the differences in the cultural, historical and social contexts that define these languages. Further research on metaphor within the framework of linguistic and cognitive analysis may include the study of the influence of metaphor on individual styles of thinking, the study of metaphors within specific genres, or the analysis of the role of metaphor within specific subcultures.
