Особливе становище Тайваню на міжнародній арені та його роль у протистоянні США та Китаю

Abstract

The confrontation between the two global leaders - the US and China - is growing under the influence of the crisis in the Taiwan Strait. Taiwan (officially the Republic of China) is an island that does not have a de jure defined status, although de facto it is a separate independent country. Disputes regarding the ownership of the island have been going on for more than half a century, but recently the question of the status of Taiwan has again become extremely relevant. Both China and the US have their own interests in resolving the issue of Taiwan’s ownership, which could lead to a very powerful military conflict. The US seeks to preserve the islands of independence in order to weaken China’s influence in the region, while China, on the contrary, seeks to annex the island at any cost. Considering the fact that both countries have great influence on the world community, powerful armed forces and nuclear capabilities, and also compete for leadership on the international stage, their confrontation can be extremely dangerous. Considering the escalation of the conflict due to the visit of the American Nancy Pelosi to Taiwan in 2022, this problem becomes especially urgent. The work examines the origins and peculiarities of the Taiwan problem, the prospects for the development of this conflict in the near future, and its impact on the system of international relations. The positions of the USA and China regarding the probable declaration of independence of Taiwan, which clearly contradict each other, are analyzed. Considering that Taiwan is a sticking point for these two global countries, relations between the two have deteriorated significantly in the past few years, especially since Nancy Pelosi’s visit. The position of the island itself regarding the probable acquisition of independence is also clarified. As a result of research, the likelihood of conflict escalation, including the deployment of active military operations, has been clarified. The statements of key American and Chinese officials regarding the probable conduct of active hostilities for the island’s ownership, as well as Taiwan’s actual ability to defend itself, are considered. The latest provocations by China, which could lead to escalation, were also considered. Протистояння між двома глобальними лідерами – США та Китаєм – зростає під впливом кризи у Тайванській протоці. Тайвань (офіційна назва – Республіка Китай) є островом, що де-юре не має визначеного статусу, хоча де-факто є окремою незалежною країною. Суперечки щодо приналежності острова тривають уже понад пів століття, проте останнім часом питання щодо статусу Тайваню знову стало вкрай актуальним. І Китай, і США мають свої інтереси у розв’язанні проблеми приналежності Тайваню, що може призвести до дуже потужного військового конфлікту. США прагнуть зберегти незалежність острова, щоб послабити вплив Китаю у цьому регіоні, а Китай навпаки, прагне приєднати острів будь-якою ціною. Враховуючи той факт, що обидві країни мають великий вплив на світову спільноту, потужні збройні сили та ядерний потенціал, а також змагаються за лідерство на міжнародній арені, їх протистояння може бути вкрай небезпечним. Зважаючи на загострення конфлікту внаслідок візиту американки Ненсі Пелосі до Тайваню у 2022 році, ця проблема набуває особливої актуальності. Використано такі методи дослідження: індукції, дедукції, аналіз, логічний, історичний та системний методи. У роботі досліджено витоки та особливості тайванської проблеми, перспективи розвитку цього конфлікту у найближчому майбутньому та її вплив на систему міжнародних відносин. Проаналізовано позиції США та Китаю щодо ймовірного проголошення незалежності Тайваню, які однозначно протирічать одна одній. Зважаючи, що Тайвань є проблемною точкою цих двох глобальних країн, відносини між ними значно погіршилися в останні кілька років, а особливо після візиту Ненсі Пелосі. З’ясовано також позицію самого острова щодо ймовірного здобуття незалежності. В результаті досліджень з’ясовано ймовірність ескалації конфлікту, включаючи розгортання активних військових дій. Розглянуто заяви ключових американських та китайських посадовців щодо ймовірного ведення активних бойових дій за приналежність острова, а також фактичну можливість Тайваню оборонятися. Також розглянуто останні провокації з боку Китаю, які могли б призвести до ескалації.
