Своєрідність інтерпретації образу Фауста у творчості І. Франка

Abstract

У статті досліджується проблема інтерпретації образу Фауста у творчості Івана Франка. Безпосереднім об’єктом дослідження є його переклад трагедії Гете «Фауст» та авторські передмови до нього. На нашу думку, франківський переклад зазначеного твору є глибоко самобутнім та цікавим літературним явищем, яке свідчить не лише про бездоганне знання його автором німецької мови та літератури, але й про глибокі роздуми над філософськими ідеями цього твору, прагнення до нового осмислення образу Фауста. У статті акцентується на тому, що образ Фауста належить до «вічних» або традиційних образів світової літератури, тому звернення до нього українського письменства є ознакою його універсальності та актуальності і водночас ознакою приналежності нашої літератури до сім’ї європейських літератур. Авторка наголошує на тому, що І. Франко приділяв величезне значення появі славетної трагедії Гете в перекладі українською мовою не лише тому, що цей твір є шедевром із художнього погляду. На його думку, важливим був той факт, що поява «Фауста» Гете символізувала духовне відродження людини, її звільнення від постійного страху перед надприродними силами, віру у власні сили та розум. Як мислителя та громадського діяча Франка передусім цікавив світоглядний смисл образу Фауста, якому він надавав великого суспільного значення. З огляду на зазначене вище, в дослідженні приділяється увага не лише перекладу І. Франком трагедії Гете «Фауст», а й авторським передмовам, в яких поет детально виклав своє розуміння твору та чільних образів трагедії. Завдяки їх ретельному аналізу з’ясовано основні риси, притаманні франківській інтерпретації образу Фауста та інших героїв, його бачення ідейно-філософських аспектів усього твору. У статті авторка доходить висновку, що головну ідею «Фауста» Гете, глибокий зміст цього твору Франко вбачає в тому, що творча особистість має віддати свій талант на служіння суспільству, відкинувши особисті прагнення та вподобання. The article investigates the problem of interpretation of the image of Faust in the works of Ivan Franko. The direct object of research is his translation of Goethe’s tragedy “Faust” and the author’s prefaces to it. In our opinion, the Franko’s translation of this work is a deeply original and interesting literary phenomenon, which testifies not only to the author’s impeccable knowledge of German language and literature, but also to deep reflections on the philosophical ideas of this work, the aspiration for a new comprehension of the Faust’s image. The article focuses attention on the fact that the image of Faust belongs to the “eternal” or traditional images of world literature, so the appeal to him of Ukrainian literature is a sign of its universality and relevance, and, at the same time, a sign of our literature belonging to the family of European literatures. The author emphasizes that I. Franko attached great importance to the appearance of the Goethe’s famous tragedy translated into Ukrainian not only because this work is a masterpiece from an artistic point of view. In his opinion, the important fact was that the appearance of Goethe’s “Faust” symbolized the spiritual rebirth of man, his liberation from constant fear of supernatural forces, faith in their own strength and mind. As a thinker and public figure, Franko was primarily interested in the worldview meaning of the image of Faust, to which he attached great social significance. In view of the above, the research pays attention not only to I. Franko’s translation of Goethe’s tragedy “Faust”, but also to the author’s prefaces, in which the poet detailed his understanding of the work and the main images of the tragedy. Thanks to a thorough analysis of them, the main features inherent in the Franko’s interpretation of the Faust and other heroes’ image, his vision of the ideological and philosophical aspects of the entire work have been found out. In the article, the author comes to the conclusion that the main idea of Goethe’s “Faust”, the deep meaning of this work, Franko sees in the fact that the creative person must give his talent to serve society, rejecting personal aspirations and preferences.
