According to M. Heidegger, because of Plato’s theory of ideas the process of oblivion of being begins and the concept of truth as uncovered is obscured by the understanding of truth as corresponding to the correct representation (idea.) This is the very place where the process of forgetting being begins and eventually led to a total error in Western European thought (Nietzsche’s nihilism). What was traditionally considered the most valuable thing in Plato’s teaching, namely the theory of ideas, turns out to be a fatal error in the knowledge of being. But this teaching did not arise out of nowhere, it was the result of some experience of cognition of being, initially, according to Heidegger, containing a flaw. M. Heidegger notes that Plato’s being is endowed with a fundamentally important feature: it is interpreted as giving a possibility, and thus here, that is, at the beginning of metaphysics, a kind of ambiguity is introduced into the interpretation of being, namely: being, on the one hand, is pure presence, and on the other, being makes existing possible. The ambiguity of being as an idea (pure presence and empowerment) also manifests itself in the fact that through the interpretation of being as an idea, an allusion is made to “looking”, to the knowledge of man. Being as visible is a presence, but at the same time it is something that a person puts before his eyes. M. Heidegger turns to ancient philosophy not only to "admire the richness" of its ideological content. German thinker seeks to find theoretical confirmation of his philosophical ontognoseological concept in ancient Greek philosophy. From the point of view of M. Heidegger, his doctrine of existence means, on the one hand, a break with the whole previous (starting with Socrates) rationalist philosophical tradition. On the other - the continuation of the pre-Socratic line in philosophy in its aspect, which until now was supposed to be "Forgotten", therefore, in the aspect of pre-reflexive figurative-poetic perception of the world. M. Heidegger pays special attention to the question of ways of knowing this "being", which can unfold only along the lines of its pre-reflexive understanding.
