Abstract

The article deals with the results of theoretical and empirical research on the features of empathic orientation (empathic preferences) of men and women. Empathy is considered from the standpoint of continual approach, which allows considering it as a complex, multi-leveled and simultaneously integral property of an individual. In the context of this approach, theoretical and empirical researches are subject to the indicators of empathy and quality (emotional, cognitive and effective empathy) and the substantial levels (empathic orientation). It is determined that a group of men and women belonging to the same type of empathy, differ in empathic orientation, i.e., have different empathic preferences. In particular, it was found that men are more prone to feelings about the events of the past and the future compared with women.
